Alpine Fair Stans

Without exaggeration, the Alpine fair in Stans, the capital of the Canton Nidwalden, is one of the most genuine harvest festivals in Switzerland. It is considered to be one of the most popular folklore festivals of the year and a cultural enrichment.

This is not a celebration of an illusionary idyllic farming world nor is it intended to be a tourist spectacle. The underlying thought is to appropriately commemorate the end of the farming season and follow the principles of the brotherhood of Alpine herdsmen which was founded in 1778.
