Cherry Storm of Zug

Zug is a cherry canton. To mark the opening of the cherry season the «Chriesigloggä» (cherry bell) of St. Michael's Church peals.

This all goes back to an old tradition, when locals used to rush off with long ladders (men and children) and with big panniers (women) through the old town to start picking the cherries grown on nearby common land. These days the «Chriesisturm» (cherry storm) is run just for fun and is followed by the opportunity for a splendid lunch and the traditional cherry market.
