Xang and The Sopranos invite you to a joint concert

The life of Saint Nicolas is presented in a colourful, entertaining and lively way; captivating listeners and performers alike. Typically for Britten, the work resounds with telling melo-dies, harmonic excitement, and rhythmic variety.

The cantata for mixed choir was completed by Britten in 1948. Eric Crozier’s libretto sketch-es a bold portrait of St. Nicholas´s character and exaggerates somewhat the legends that evolved about him over the centuries. Britten's music reinforces the drama of Crozier's text with striking contrasts in instrumentation and musical texture.

The collaboration of the choirs combines the mature voices of XANG with the youthful voices of The Sopranos.

This pre-Christmas work offers the whole family an atmospheric Advent evening.
